Choice Time

    You may hear your Kindergartner talk about "Choice Time" at school.  That's the time of the day when children play in the classroom areas of their choice.  It's fascinating to watch them during this time-- play really IS children's work!  Children often focus on one area for a number of days, refining their skills with those materials, and then move on to something else.  We try to vary some of the materials available, and also have some "standards" that are always there, so that it feels both new AND predictable for our students.  I love to listen to the excited chatter that's going on in the classroom at this time, and watch the busy little bodies at play.
