It's the District expectation that most Kindergarteners will finish the year knowing how to read at least 17 of the first 20 words on the Fry Sight Word list. (These are the words on the Set 1 Word Cards that we send home.) They are: it, on, a, was, with, that, for, you, the, of, are, his, in, he, and, is, to,and as.
The more familiar your child is with these words, the better! Some families enjoy playing games with the words, hanging them up around the house, tracing them in shaving cream or soap lather, spelling them out loud in the car, and using them in other fun ways.
